Known To Be Bold
BIO:
I grew up in Westchester, spent my post-college years living abroad in Southeast Asia, and came back to New York City where I started my career in the nonprofit sector — with a growing side obsession in vintage clothing, antiques, and fine art.
That obsession became The Ivory Flamingo Vintage, a business I built from an online shop into a brick-and-mortar destination on Warren Street in Hudson, NY, with a following that included celebrities, musicians, and the fashion elite. Pieces from my collection were featured on Modcloth.com, Chairish.com, and the HBO series The Knick.
From there, design work found me naturally. I went on to work as an interior designer and consultant with a major global home furnishings company, then spent several years as a top-producing realtor — an experience that gave me something most designers don't have: a deep understanding of how design decisions affect the way a home feels, functions, and holds its value.
Today, Get The Buckhout brings all of it together. I offer interior design, personal styling, and staging services for clients who want a space that's bold, intentional, and built to last.
When I'm not designing or rearranging furniture at home, you'll find me in the garden or out in nature with my two dogs and four chickens. Proudly based in Westchester County, where it all began.
Q + A:
Why work with a designer? Because the difference between a room you like and a room you love is almost always in the details you'd never think to consider on your own. Fabric performance, furniture scale, lighting temperature, the pitch of a chair — there is so much that goes into a space that truly works. I take the guesswork out of the process and turn design challenges into solutions, so the end result feels both beautiful and effortless.
What is your design philosophy? I believe in designing with intention. That means prioritizing pieces that are well made, meaningful, and built to last over anything fast, disposable, or forgettable. I actively source reclaimed materials, vintage finds, and antiques whenever possible, and I steer clients toward investments that will only get better with time. Good design shouldn't expire. It should tell a richer story every year you live with it.
What's your style? Bold, but livable. I gravitate toward the unexpected: a striking piece of art, an antique with a history, a color choice that actually commits to something. I'm a big believer in letting accessories and artwork do the heavy lifting, which gives clients the freedom to be adventurous without feeling locked in. Every decision is rooted in how you actually use the space and what makes it feel unmistakably yours.
Who do you work with best? Clients who are ready to be surprised. You don't need to know exactly what you want, you just need to be open to finding out. I can work within any aesthetic, but I do my best work with people who are willing to go somewhere a little unexpected. When I have creative latitude and a curious client, the results tend to be pretty special.
What is the process like? Every project starts with a conversation about scope, budget, timeline, and what you're really after. From there I manage everything: sourcing, coordination, delivery, and installation. I set realistic expectations from the beginning and keep communication open throughout. My job is to handle the complexity so the experience feels smooth and the end result feels like you, only better.
Where do you work and what does it cost? I'm based in Westchester County and work throughout the tri-state area including New York City, Connecticut, and New Jersey. I'm always willing to travel for the right project, and a great deal can be accomplished remotely as well. I work at an hourly rate agreed upon upfront, and I pass along any trade discounts I receive so your budget goes further. Honest, transparent, no surprises. Reach out and let's talk.
